Fitness: and the next topic is…

So, as promised last week, this post will introduce the second of the three F’s. Fitness. To be honest, this topic will probably be a little broader than just fitness, but you know I needed a word that fitted with the ‘f’ alliteration.

It may make me sound like a crazy, but I genuinely love exercise. I get incredibly grumpy if I don’t get to workout for a few days. I’ll always travel with my trainers and Lycra and try and sneak in a quick hotel room work out or run while I’m working abroad.

I was pretty late getting into exercise. I’ll be honest, I was a chubby kid and would do all I could to get out of P.E at school. In fact, I first joined a gym at around the age of 20. I’d been made redundant from two jobs in the same year whilst trying to make mortgage payments, my parents had moved to another country, my friends and sister had gone away to Uni, and I was in a pretty low place. A GP wanted to put me on anti depressants but I declined. I decided to join a gym instead as I had read about its benefits for mental health. I’m so glad I made this choice, as it helped me so much. From there I then got into running. I’m slightly embarrassed to confess how I got into running. One of the PTs at the gym that I had a massive crush on decided to start a running club, which I obviously signed up for. Within a year I had already completed my first half marathon, and I have loved long distance running ever since! Last year I ran two full marathons, but have now decided to return to half marathons, of which I’m doing another one in November in Las Vegas which I’m crazy excited for!

I also some how fell into Triathlon despite being shockingly awful at swimming and hating cycling! I did however eventually fall in love with cycling and last year completed a half iron man (2k swim, 90k bike and half marathon run to finish.) It was amazing to achieve, but I have no intention of pursuing triathlon anymore and since then i’ve been more focused on gym based work outs and running. I’ll be using this blog to post about my training once a month so you’ll definitely be getting a blog on my half marathon in November.

I’m also thinking of expanding the topic of fitness beyond just exercise and occasionally include broader health topics. Probably ones that effect me personally such as polycystic ovary Syndrom (PCOS) and the side effects of that.

As always it would be great to get some feedback from you guys on what you think of this post and your thoughts on the topic and future posts. Thanks for all your comments last week.
